I have a warning light on. Its 2nd in from left 996 2001, Think its brake pad wrning. It had new pads & discs fitted when i bought car many years ago. The light was on then, Never bothered me. Now its MOT time & new uk rules. No warning lights or a fail, Do i need to get the light reset or is there a problem. All pad wear sensors ok & car has only done 21,000mls. Any help appreciated.

The brake warning light comes from the brake pad sensors. So it could be a bad connection or sensor.

The brake sensor is just a wire and any breaks in the wire (or connector) will turn the light on. You will need to check wheel by wheel.

While Loren is correct on the pad wear sensors, you can also get a MIL warning light if the fluid level gets a bit low, which is both easy to check and remedy by adding fluid if it is down.

Thanks for the reply, i can go on a bit sometimes, but what i wanted to know was, will the light extinguish itself when the fault clears. I.E Can i take each wheel off & short the sensor cable out then check light until i find which sensor set is at fault.

Yes, the light will go out when the fault is removed.
