Help diagnosing sound

1999 C4 Cabriolet:

I have noticed a strange sound (the best way I can explain it is a grinding type sound) which seems to come from the engine area. The sound does not occur when the car is in neutral and does not occur when I take am in any gear with my foot on the gas. It only occurs when I am moving and I take my foot off the gas when the car is in any gear. Any thoughts?

Wow. Well a total guess would be thrust shims or something in the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel area.

But, I wouldn't jump to conclusions or even entertain those above as an "estimate" without some more careful diagnosis.

Car on a lift, ramp, or stands and reproducing the sound while underneath to better isolate the general area/source.

Can you post a you tube of the sound?
