I know i need to get a locksmith or porgy dealer to program spare key for car but can i program the key fob for opening doors etc or is this all part of the coding system, I have a spare key fob as mine is US/ duff

Hi thanks for that but can you be more specific, I.E is the key immobiliser part a different job to the door locking mechanism. In the key fob there is a little metal tube which i guess is the immobiliser chip. Then there is the rest of the remote door opening circuit board. Are they all limnked or is there 2 seperate functions. Sorry if i appear thick on this subject.

No - each key has an immobilizer pill that must be programmed into the car's DME and alarm system. It is one system so programming is required for any and all operations (and so anyone can not steal your car).

Just to add though... after my trials and tribulations (bought 2nd key from eBay = waste of money, etc)....

My dealer told me that they are are two separate processes. If you get a spare / 2nd hand remote key, you can have the immobiliser bit programmed (by the dealer or similar) to work, but the remote part can only be programmed if you have the 2 serial number tags with it and it hasn't been programmed to a car before.

Ok thanks for that. We have quite a few locksmiths in uk that advertise they can supply new key & program for around £90 Maybe this will be the route i take. Stupid thing is i only want a spare key as going to sell the car soon & does not look good with only one key.

I have used these guys with great success. Nice, friendly service:

They cut a key blade for me (from a photo of my existing one!) - I put that in a s/h remote fob which I took to my OPC to get the immobiliser pil coded - the remote part couldn't be done, as explained above.

Wow how wierd is that. I just received my key blade this morning from them, They are good & they clone a lot of chipped keys from motorcycles/scooters for me, which is my busness doing cat D/C write offs that rarely come with both keys.

I asked them & they can do the porsche key code job, but they are in Kent & need the car to read codes. I,m in Leeds so its a long drive.
