Hi All. I have a MY2000 Boxster S. For the last few weeks the trip odometer has been resetting itself whenever I open the drivers door. I have disconnected the battery for a few days to see if it would reset but that has made no difference at all. Anyone have a clue whats going on and why when I open the door ?

Thanks in advance.

Bizarre.

The only thing that comes to mind is the ignition switch, they are known to cause very strange electrical issues.

Perhaps the door micro-switch is interacting with the ignition switch and instrument cluster.

This is the only guess I have. And it is just that. A guess.

The error is probably in the cluster (memory trip/odo). Each time the door is locked, by the remote or the key, the power to the cluster is shut down, the power comes back in when you open the door through the lock. I assume that the memory function inside the cluster is defective.

I would first remove the cluster to inspect the connections and be sure the connector locking tabs are still sound and no terminals are damaged/corroded.

Are there no other odd electrical faults such as the radio staying on or ignition switch problems?

Thanks for all you replys..

There does not seem to be any other faults happening at all. If it makes any difference the trip odometer resets itself on actually opening the door not unlocking / locking the car. i will check the connections on the back of the cluster when I get a chance and I will let you know how it go's.

Thanks again.

OK it's been a few months now and I have checked the connections on the back of the cluster and replaced the ignition switch (not that there were any other electrical faults) but I still have the same problem. What is strange is that it only resets when you open the drivers door and not the passengers. anyone else had anything similar ?

Still baffled.

This is an odd one. Long shot but maybe check for water in the alarm module under the left seat. It's connected to the door micro switches and such. Have you noticed any battery or other odd problems?

Thanks for the reply. Carpets are totally dry under seats (hell it never goes out in the rain) and everything else electrical seems to be working fine. I've tinkered with car electrics quite a bit in my time but none of this makes any sense. Not a major problem I know, I just hate things not working as they should.

Thanks again.
