Today on my way home from work something happened with the clutch.

It feels fine/normal when pressing down but when I release it hesitates/judders and the engagement feels weird.

Once it's up the car drives fine in gear.

The weird thing is that when the engine is off it feels normal when I press and release the clutch.

It does squeak a tiny bit though.

If I start the engine, in neutral and press/release I feel the judder on the way up.

Could be the slave cylinder needs to be bled. I would start with that first.

After that the chatter could be due to worn clutch or flywheel.

It doesn't sound like a boost spring problem in the pedal, otherwise you might notice that on the way down.

How many miles on the clutch, car?

Turned out to be a cracked clutch finger disc resulting in uneven fingers. So when releasing the clutch about 75% of them hit the clutch initially which was causing the juddering.
