On start up the exhaust is in the loud mode when switched it goes into quiet mode, if i switch back to loud I'm unable to go back to quiet mode. If I turn off the car and let it sit ovr night I can get it to switch once more.

My idea is that the vacum relay switch is not holding vacum.

Any ideas???

Normally the valves are open (no vacuum) - so it might take a few seconds to quiet down.

It could also be that someone switched the two way valve so that it is reversed to normal operation.

The vacuum relay just open and closes a valve, it does not "hold" a vacuum. There is a small reservoir that get the vacuum from the intake plenum and is supposed to hold a vacuum even if the engine is off. It could be the relay or the tip switch. But if it goes to the quiet mode once this indicates that there is vacuum.

Sounds like the polarity may be reserved on the relay.
