I have a 2006 C2S Cabriolet. The passenger side of the top doesn't come up as fast as the driver side. I have to manually assist it as it closes or opens, pulling or pushing until gravity takes over. If I don't manually assist it, the " not in limit position" light comes on and the top won't close or open. I had it inspected at a Porsche dealer. The diagnostic did not show any error codes according to them. I just bought the car 2 weeks ago. It has 39k miles on it. Of course it worked when I bought it from previous owner. HELP! anything simple I can do?

There is definitely an issue with the mechanism that animates the top and I'm surprised the dealer gave it a good bill of health. An independent Porsche shop might be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis. Could be as simple as lubricating the actuating arms on the weak side but I have never had to do it so can't give you any DIY help here.

Never had problems with mine. I do have it lubed when getting serviced. I would bring it back to the selling dealer and get them to fix it. Did car come with warranty??

I'm not sure how the 06 C2 mounts to the top motor but I had a plastic ball cup fail on the left side of my 987, I think I opened it about half way and went in with a flash light to verify. After I had it replaced it went up and down evenly with no trouble. Knocking on wood...

Have you checked the hydraulic oil level? It is underneath the carpet that the top folds down on. A low level can cause the whole mechanism to lag. Also check that the main securing bolt (under the top cover at the back) is secure. I've seen some that are a bit loose cause the top to open a bit skewed.

I was told the 997 cabs do not have hydraulic units - they are electric and mechanical gear box based.

Any thoughts ?

My 997 cab top has failed - it will come unhooked from the windshield and the motor sounds like it is trying to crank it back but the top does move.

Seems to me you likely have one or both of the hydraulic actuators bad on the vehicle. The 997/996 system is hydraulic and is generally far more reliable han the older 993 style mechanical system. If one of your actuators has gone bad, you have likely lost enough fluid so that system is not able to raise or lower the top. If you look directly behind the doors where rear wheel well plastic is, you may find signs of oily mess on one or both sides. Essentially, when the actuators go bad, they drip right onto the plastic drains and this leads the fluid right out the same location that water would flow. If you do find you need to replace actuator, you should seriously consider changing both. I replaced 1 and within 60 days had to replace the other. I had been warned by the parts department that they suggest replacing them in "pairs"....
