2007 C4S Cab, the PCM display showed the message phone, amp,cd and sat nav not available. Thought it might be the Sat Nav unit as the dvd would not eject. Taken car to main dealer for diagnostics and they confirmed (charged £75) that unit was faulty, they want £1,400 to replace it!

I've seen a couple of companies that offer repair (Becker unit) but have also read that some codes need to be read out before the old unit is removed. Anybody know what to do, if I take the old unit out, get it repaired and put it back in, will it work or does the dealer have to set it up again?

Thanks for any help.

not 100% sure but I imagine the dealer or a service shop w/ PIWIS software set up will need to be involved. Maybe not on removal, but almost definitely on re-installation.

Couple of random thoughts...

- w/o nav drive in the loop, nothing will work as they all electronically handshake w/ each other in the 'authorized' loop.

- might you have deeper issues? when my NAV didn't work (different issue - no disc), radio, cd and cd changer still did.

Why not seriously consider going w/ an aftermkt set up - I've seen a number which integrate as well if not better than factory. $1400 is a lot for just NAV (when most NAV systems are a couple hundred $ these days). Bet you could find a nice high end stereo shop to replace the entire set up for not much more and have it more functional i.e.: live NAV updates, satellite radio, HD radio, ipod/MP3 integration, bluetooth, HDD, etc. Might be less but regardless it will certainly be more reliable...

Good luck :)

Thanks fo reply, I probably did not make myself 100% clear nothing else is working (apart from PCM display) no radio, amp, phone, cd changer so I guess the faulty Sat Nav unit is not being seen when the system boots up.

Not happy at price of replacement (that is £1,400 english pounds, so even more in dollars), considering its not even Porche euipment, outsourced to Becker.

Why can't Porsche do electronics properly, it's ridiculous that a car that cost as much as this when new does not even come with a MP3 socket!

You shouldn't need to enter any codes if you are replacing the navigation drive. I would try getting it repaired. Try Maple Audio in Bath: www.mapleaudio.co.uk

If you swap it for a used unit, you might have to update the nav drive software, but this can be done by CD updates.

If you are anywhere near me, I would be happy to do a PIWIS check, as a second opinion.
