Dear all,

before i started this post i have searched through the topics but couldn't find any relevant info/solution for my problem.

Let's start from the beginning. A couple of weeks ago, i took my car to the car wash. The dude at the car wash used high pressurized water to clean the engine.

After the wash the psm failure signal came up and the car went into limp mode. I guess some water messed up the electronics of the car.

With durametric i made a diagnose and 3 errors showed up:

- P0481

Description: Fan 2 Control Circuit

- P0103

Description: Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit

= P0571

Description: Brake Switch A Circuit

After resetting the errors, the rpm goes to zero after starting the engine, so engine goes dead. When i prevent the rpm going to zero by pushing the gas pedal, the psm failure shows up again and rpm doesn't drop to zero anymore.

So i am completely confused.

Is someone familiar with this problem?

Any tips are welcome.

Thanks in advance

Dear loren,

Many thanks for your quick reply.

It is a porsche cayenne s - 2004- 4.5 v8.

You gave me some possible causes.is there a tutorial available on how to measure/check the causes?or can you explain to me?

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Mo

I think step one would be to clear the codes and see what comes back. Water where it should not be can give false codes so dry it out clear the codes and check again a day or so later.

Nest I see how old your battery is. Cayenne's can do all kind of strange things with a weak battery. I suggest that if your battery is 4 years old or older - replace it. Then clear the codes and see if any come back.

When I picked up my '06 Turbo S on the East coast (Deleware) I immediately began a drive to the West Coast (Wash state). I had multiple faults, dipped beam, level control, AWD transfer system, etc.. throughout the drive. When I got the car home, did a good wash of course but I went through every connection underneath, in the engine compartment, in the wheel wells and disconnected then and sprayed contact cleaner enhancer ( http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.292/.f ) on every connection and then reconnected. After all of that the only one that ever came back was the dipped beam error and I replaced both HID bulbs and that one has never returned. These cars are definitely picky about their connections. It is a little bit time consuming but a good start before going more in depth. In my case I am lucky in that I have a lift in my shop but there is room under the Pig to do it on your back still.

Battery was replaced 10 months ago.

By now the connections shoumd be dry,but maybe corrossion ocurred.

I will check the connection plugs and try to reset the faults and see what happens.

The connection pkugs for the afm are easy to find.how about the other plugs?where are they located and hiw to access?

I would disconnect the connections in question and dry them with low pressure compressed air. High pressure washers can force water past the weather pack seals and the seal will not allow it to dry out completely. Then clear all codes and retest systems.

If a battery is ten months old or ten minutes old, it's always a good idea to verify that is within spec.

Dear Loren, hahnmgh63 and wvicary,

it is easy to find the connections for the Mass Air Flow Meters.

But where are the connections situated for the Fans and the Brake Switch?

Can someone please explain me how to access.

Your input is highly appreciated.

thanks
