I have an early MY05 997 C2 and it has 996 brake pads on the front, which

have the smaller round weights on the tabs. When I ordered replacement pads

recently, I ordered the hardware kit that the website said went with the pads

I had chosen, as follows:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

996-352-949-03-M3 Front Brake Pad Set, 996 (1999-2005) (from 05),

Brand: Textar

----------------------------------------------------------------------

996-351-959-01-M100 Brake Pad Retainer Kit front 996 Carrera

(1999-05), front 996 Carrera 4 (1999-01), front 996 Carrera 4 (2002-05

except S), rear 996 Carrera 4S (2002-05 except M450 Ceramic), rear 996

Turbo (2001-2005 except M450 Ceramic), Each, 996 (1999-2005), Brand:

Genuine PORSCHE

----------------------------------------------------------------------

However when I went to put the spring clips on, I found they were too small!

(They appear to be the right size for the 997 pads which have larger tabs.)

This web page shows the difference I'm talking about: http://tinyurl.com/3g8rk5g

Other online vendors also say this hardware kit is the correct one for those

pads. So here's my question: Did I order the wrong part, or is it possible

that the package is labelled wrong?

The vendor is trying to be helpful, but I don't think their cust svc dept

really understands my question.

:welcome:

For 996.352.xxx.xxx - the 352 designates rear pads. So those are likely the wrong pads.

The correct front pads for a MY2005 997-1 (non-S) are:

997.351.939.03 Front pads set

997.612.756.00 Left sensor

997.612.759.00 Right sensor

and

955.352.960.00 Retainer kit

Oh!! That's useful to know, thanks. Although from the product photos online, it looks like the main difference between front & back is that the front pads have those tabs with weights on them; the rear pads don't. The pads I received when I ordered that part# definitely have the tabs (which is why the spring clip size matters).

Plus it still doesn't explain why more than one online vendor claims that hardware kit goes with those pads, when it doesn't.

(I thought maybe the hardware kit packaging was wrong, but maybe it was the pads?)
