Need a new set of FRONT BRAKE ROTORS – for my 996 Mk II 2004 GT3 (ie with the larger 6 pot calipers)

Have been getting 6 moths use only from the OEM Sebro’s.

Cracking from the very outside ventilation holes close to edge of rotors, plus cracks between the holes.

I’m typically only doing short sprints, time trials etc – or 8 lap races (9/10 minutes) – at most

- So fade, heating not a huge issue

More focussed on getting some good life from the rotors – but still reasonable bite factor etc.

OEM Sebros are DRILLED of course – I hear SLOTTED rotors are better as no issues with the cracks between the ventilation holes

- But these heat up easier? Provide the same grip/bite factor?

Appreciate thoughts..........recommended suppliers?

Try Evoms. They have a Brembo slotted rotor kit for the track.. The kit comes with the calipers as well which you don't need. Call them and see if the rotors will work with your calipers and if they sell the rotors seperately..

How about doing some cryo treatment on the rotors before installation. Seems they resist better to wear.

Have you measured the cracks? There is a Porsche spec sheet that allows the cracks up to 7mm, if I remember correctly. IMHO, the rotors are awful expensive to replace if they are still in spec. Then again you can't put a price on peace of mind.

Many people (myself included) use the ATE slotted rotors for the Cayenne with the large brake option (350mm). They fit perfectly but they do not have the little screw hole for the locating screw (not a problem at all). The upside is they are a fraction of the cost ($130/each) and seem to last much better than the drilled ones. At least one website even lists them for this application:

Normal problem with these discs. The only thing porsche ever got wrong with the cars I have bought (apart from extended warranty conditions, and....).

In UK we replace with Alcon discs, and the problem goes away. www.jzmachtec.com

Not to add to the confusion, but when you plug the part number from the factory (996 351 409 9H) into any retail web site (pelican, auto atlanta, etc) you get prices averaging 500 bucks a side. I know they are 350 mm but what else is compatible? The GT3 Cup rotors (996 351 410 9J M294) show up as 350mm x 33mm. They are also FAR less expensive ($205 a side). Enter the "updated" part number for the 997 (997 351 410 90 M294) shows up at about $350 per side but they are 350mm x 34 mm. I am confused and don't want to waste money. If the Cup rotors will work/last 80-90% as long for 67% of the price, it's a pretty good deal...can someone help me sort this out? Thanks!

Check out the aftermarket Cayenne S rotors, they fit fine and work great on the track. Just keep your brake fluid fresh and you shouldn't get any fade. They are a bit heavier than stock but at the price I paid (about $100 each on Ebay) they are a no brainer. I previously ran Brembo GT floating rotors and even at high speed tracks like Road America I have not had any problems. Save your money for Hoosiers!!
