warning lamp in temp gauge

hi all just got a 2000 boxster 2.5 5 speed cars been standing for 6 mths or so roofs playing up as i have allready posted but also guy i got it of told me that ever since he had rad replaced the red warning light in temp gauge flashes dosent get hot level seems fine did 50 miles this morning drove without fault temp fine and steady but lights still flashing guessing it needs re setting some how is this something i can do or is it plug in job cheers all dave

Here's the Owner's Manual's take on a flashing warning light:

If the coolant level is too low, the warning light flashes.

* Switch engine off and allow to cool.

* Add coolant.

* Have the cause of the fault remedied at an authorized Porsche dealer.

Follow the warnings and instructions in the "Coolant level" chapter.

/?\. Caution!

Risk of engine damage.

* If the warning light comes on even though coolant level is correct, do not continue driving.

* Have the fault remedied at the nearest authorized Porsche dealer.

Engine compartment blower fan

In addition, this warning light flashes to indicate a fault in the engine compartment fan.

* Have the cause of the fault remedied at an authorized Porsche dealer.

I had the same issue with my boxster. I drove around for a day with the coolant filler cap loose to help 'burp' the cooling system. Seems to have solved the problem form me.

You will lose coolant if you leave the cap loose. Just raise the spring latch on the bleed valve instead.
