Help

'02 Cab, all four windows are not going up or down. The front windows do drop when opening and closing the doors.

This just happened and I've never had this problem. Things done with the car in the last week. Installed my hardtop, had the car state inspected. The inspection station opened the drivers window and I one click closed it to drive home so they were working after the above was done.

Parked the car, went out later to it and none of the windows will open, the buttons do nothing.

I've checked the fuses for the alarm and windows and they are all good.

What to check next? Or what is wrong? It is something central as all 4 switches couldn't go bad at once.

I just took the hardtop off and the problem still exists.

...Removed the hardtop and the problem still exists, however it should be noted, the windows did go up/down with the soft top going up and down as it should.

If there is an immobiliser under the driver's front seat, check for moisture or water. This is not an uncommon problem with Boxsters when the convertible top drains clog and water enters the cabin and finds its way under the driver's seat. If the 996 has the same immobiliser, it's worth a check.

Regards, Maurice.

No water in the either seat well, the car never sees rain either. I would think other things would no be functioning, but everything is working perfectly. No dash lights, nothing malfunctioning other than the windows won't open or close with the switch buttons. The windows either do their drop when opening the door and will open/close when raising the cabrio top.

I've the checked fuses and all good. Is there anything else which could be central to all four windows not working via the switches.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who tried helping me, I will be bringing the car to my Indy either this or next week.

In a last ditch effort, I disconnected the battery and double checked every fuse in the fuse box. No burnt out fuse and after reconnecting the battery the problem still exists.

I will post what the solution is once it is fixed.

Just wanted to close this out, got the car back about a week ago and the problem stemmed from a bad Immobilizer. Once it was replaced the windows worked perfectly. And, this was the only thing in the car which wasn't working properly.

Thanks again for all suggestions on what to look at.
