Ive read the posts re fitting a 996 Hardtop to a 997 but, one thing Im still not entirely clear on and perhaps someome could anser;

Can I fit a 996 bayonet type hard top to a 997 by purely fitting the appropriate recepticles to the car body, ie without having to change hard top fittings to the screw type?

Thanks

Yes, you can. I installed the bayonet type receptacles on mine (purchased from DC parts for $160 for both!) and purchased a 996 hardtop that has the bayonet style attachment bolts. It takes about 60 seconds to install or remove with the help of another person. The bayonet bolts only turn 1/4 turn before they lock in to place. My top fits very snug and there are no leaks or squeeks/rattles.

If over time if your bayonet style attachments begin to get loose and cause rattles, you can always upgrade to the newer screw-in style bolt on your top and change the receptacle on the car body. Just be careful not to torque the bolts more than 34 ft lbs or you will reduce the clearance between your top and body too much which will result in scratches to the car body.
