Hello, I am new to this forum and felt it might be good to get some answers that aren't dealer tainted.

Have been a previous 911 owner (87 Cab) and the bug has bitten me again and now looking at the Cayman or Cayman S. My key concerns are: durability as a daily driver, comfort on long trips (I'm 6'1") and overall ownership expectations. Can you burn regular 87 octane or does it require higher? Annual maintenance cost etc.

Still on the fence over Cayman S vs Cayman...but leaning toward S. Most likely a 2006/07 vintage.

Any guidance and recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you

Very reliable daily driver. Maintenance costs are quite low. Oil change $120 (from an Indie..A dealer will charge you $250!), Oil changes are a bit pricey because of the 9 liters of oil required. Major services come at 20k mile intervals. That usually includes spark plugs, filters, belts ect. This can be as much as $15OO from a dealer or $700 to $800 from an indie. Or if you are mechaically inclined about $300 to $400 if you want to do everything your self. Never go to the dealer for maintenance (unless it's warranty work.) Find a good indie for maintenance. My dealer got so mad at me for taking my car to an indie for oil changes etc. That he said that they would match the indies prices! There are SOME good dealers out there

As for being tall I couldn't say. But I wouldn't think 6'1 would be a problem. No you can't run 87 octane gas. Oh and get the Cayman S. Huge difference. If possible try to get a Porsche CPO (certified pre owned) car. The best warranty (which you will want. Warranties are good... :thumbup: ) Look at lots of cars and be patient. High end cars aren't moving too well right now so it's a good time to shop. Good luck..

Just bought a 2005 Cayman S with extreme low km (16,350) at the Porsche dealer last weekend after having said farewell to my loyal 993 for many years. I read about all the articles and driving tests on the web, and finally went for a drive in a S it last weekend - impressive..

I'm a tall dutchman 1,86 m - you can recalc. I got mine with a CPO 1 year full warranty so no worries since some repairs can be very costly. Ive driven 200,000 km in my 993 and considering trade in value and never any special maintenance needed; good value. Advise to buy a low milage one - no matter how old really - Ps are just extremely well put together, but buy yourself time and milage on the engine.
