Air Bag Crest Replacement

I would like to replace the gold crest on the air bag of my '04 gt3. The car being silver would, I think, look better with a silver crest. Can the oe crest be easily removed and is a similary sized crest available in silver? There are some sized larger that glue over the existing one but would prefer one that would fit into the existing recess looking a bit neater and stock in appearance. I have already made the exterior crest change to silver. Also there has been some discusion as to wether a metal object should be placed on the airbag cover, the contention being a plastic crest would be preferred. Tnx

There are ways to remove the crest. It is riveted on and you take a drill to the front of the crest to eliminate the attaching stud, or you remove the air bag cover and grind away the rivet. Normal people do not like to play around with an air bag.

The silver crest was only used on 2000 for Boxster S and 996. Back then people wanted to replace the silver crest with a colored crest. That is when the colored 356 bonnet crest and stick-ons happened.

I suggest you find someone with a 2000 3 spoke and swap the oem air bags. If you were local I would tell you to show up on a work on cars day, since that is where we do this stuff.

There was a thread about this recently (with pictures and all) so you might want to do a search on the topic. If I am not mistaken the crest is bolted to the bag so it does not fly at you when it deploys.

You can also buy an airbag with a silver crest from a place like www.carnewal-europe.com,but it's about $500.

RayGT3, I have an '00 986S with the silver "millineum" crest air bag (black). As Tool Pants indicates, I wish you were local (San Jose). Logistically, I think it will be difficult to swap. Mine is Arena Red which IMHO is one of the few colors that look good with amber lenses and gold...
