I have been searching for two days now but a few posts are old and possibly not accurate any longer.

I have a 97 Boxster and have installed what I think is the old switch : Parts bag says REF 4AO 905 849B ART. NO. 100 905 0000 This number is also what is printed on both switches the one I removed and the one I installed. The one I removed only had 2,000 miles on it. And both are black!

I have read many places that the new White part may not fit my original lock assembly and I might have to buy the entire assembly for $130?

How do I determine if the white switch will fit my vehicle?

How do I find the correct white switch part number?

Was this last ignition switch the wrong one for my car?

I have tried many searches and have not been able to find the info yet to be sure I am ordering the right part.

Thank you very much for any help.

Thank you, I actually followed that exact post yesterday and those part numbers seem to be exactly what I removed and installed, I have seen a post on here recently with an all white switch that I thought said was the new one? I still have my problems with this new part so I was hopeful I had missed something and installed an outdated part having seen that all white one in another post here!

When Porsche first had problems they replaced the switch with a newer design. Unfortunately that one does not seem to last much longer than the original.

So the long term solution is to update the lock assembly that uses a newer switch (that was used in MY02 and newer cars). Problem is the switch can be purchased for under $12 and the lock assembly is over $120.

Ok So that all white switch I saw posted was for the new style clock assy.? and the part I have installed is the latest revision for my old style assembly.

Do you think I should replace the entire assembly or look elsewhere for the solution to this intermittent electrical issue? It definitely was affected by the new switch.

Where do I buy the new complete assembly? Dealer item?

Thanks for the help.

Update, at least one symptom seems to be resolved with the new ignition switch. The instrument cluster clock use to reset every time key was turned off, IT now seems to keep memory! I drove the Boxster a few times today with no power loss as of yet.

One thing that I thought was related still exists but may not be related. Often when selecting the high beams the radio losses power briefly. Also I still have a slight flicker to headlights. Maybe I need to start checking all grounds!

Thanks for all the help and advice! This car is a blast but may not be with out this Site!
