Window in the passenger side of my 996 Carrera 2 MY 98 moves too slowly. It takes more than 6 secs to go down and more than 7 to go up. The window in the driver side is faster (little more that 5 secs) and with same speed up and down.

Does anybody know how to determine if the culprit is the window regulator or the window motor?

Thanks,

Luis.

I've seen this as a telltale indicator of a failing battery cell. Is there any difference in window speed with the engine running versus off?

Thanks for your answer. I think the problem is not related to the battery because the window of the driver side is running at an acceptable speed. The speed difference with the engine running versus off is not noticeable.

I`ve just replaced the right side window regulator, and when I test the new regulator with the window installed, it`s extremely slow (like it`s meeting a lot of force when hoisting the window). It looks like the window is correctly adjusted, and the battery is new.

Have anybody else experienced this? Is it necessary to lubricate moving parts and guide tracks on the new regulator?

Thanks for any replies :-)

silicon spray in the window guides can work wonders...

installation of the regulator can be a culprit as well if something is miss-aligned and the glass ends up being under tension...

A few ideas: battery defective or insufficient voltage (charge)

window and/or poorly adjusted mechanism

motor worn out

On my 2001 996 I'm seeing very slow & labored window speed going down, but not up. Slow on both right and left side, but worse on the driver's side. I think the window is binding on the rubber. Is there a good product to soften the rubber? Or am I fooling myself and the problem is that the motor is weak (or I'm losing a battery cell). thanks...

First try to wax/polishing the windows, it should already bring much improvement.

Good idea Flanders... I applied RainX, inside & out and the windows are descending much more steadily & rapidly. Thanks!
