My fuel flap actuator didn't work from purchase on my 2001 boxster s. Fixing it today I found the 'pin' had pushed itself totally out of alignment into a space in the wing.

I'd already bought a replacement but that isn't firing either. I've manually tested the original and it works ok.

Where does the wiring terminate so I can check it for snags etc?

Any ideas where to look to trace this wire? I have to conclude that there is a break in the wire somewhere.

My car locks fine. I don't get an horn beeps etc and all windows close etc, but the fuel flap actuator does not fire...

When I had the actuator out, I tested the wiring clip for power and found none to it when I was locking the car, and sure enough the actuator itself fires manually when off the car and tested with an old battery..

When I got the car I noticed there was just a hold on the inside of the flap where the actuator should have had it's pin sticking out, so I assumed mine was missing. However when I'd bought a replacement and went to fit it, I found that the old one was still in place, but the pin was miles out of position pushing into fresh air inside the wing.

I moved it back into position and thought that would be it.. but it wouldn't fire... replaced it with a new one and it's still the same..

very odd.....

Both wires go directly to the alarm/central locking control box under the drivers seat.

Remember to remove the key from the ignition and disconnect the battery before removing the seat or you WILL get an airbag light.

Also, check to see if the carpet is wet near the control box -- if it then you may have larger problems.

How did you get to the actuator? Does it involve removing the fender?

The actuator is in the passenger fender(under the gas cap). To access it you need to remove front wheel and the black wheel well liner. There are two nuts (10mm) and four (4) plastic rivets.

Perfect! That's exactly what I needed to know. I saw the bottom nut on the evap canister, but didn't see the top one, so didn't know how to remove it. Plus, the write-up (and pics!) at the link you provided was great. Thanks!
