Went through the forum and It looks like I have all the systems. Oil is in the coolant, but not the other way around. No white smoke and the dipstick shows no sign of coolant contamination. What a mess, the stuff looks like chocolate pudding....

Not good. First, stop running the car. Question now should be where is the source? Could be the oil cooler, which is an easy fix; but if it isn't, it goes exponentially downhill from there...........

****, sorry for the mess. Good luck. In Memphis past few weeks, hard on cars round here with the heat and humidity. Considered driving, but I flew. What's your local temp? Had you been running her fairly hard? Sure hope this is an easy fix for you.... Easy being a Porsche-relative term in dollars.

....thanks for the input, why does it clump up like that...if it was oil should it not be dark and murky?

Im in Ottawa Canada now...temps have be in the high 20'sC or 80'sF. Don't push her too hard, but redline at least once a week... I do have over 100 000 miles and this has been the first and only major issue. Outside that just a few blown bulbs!! ;)

Oil and coolant does not mix, it forms an emulsion, like hot chocolate or salad dressing in consistency.

Wow, thanks. I love this car, never gave me any trouble so I'm hoping its and easy fix. Come to think of it oil consumption was never

high up until last week when I noticed I was down a quart within short period of time.

I hope that it's the oil cooler. Fingers crossed for you. Who services the car locally for you (I am in Ottawa too)?

Here is a video on testing an oil cooler.

I did this without all the fancy equipment. I can give you some helpful tips.

The thing about intermix is that there can be several possible causes. Also when the engine is running the oil is under pressure and goes into the cooling system but when the engine is turned off the hot coolant is still pressurized and will go the other way through cracks, etc. Take a good look at your oil for any signs of contamination.

Hopefully you just have a failed oil cooler. I had a fatal intermix in one of my 996's and there was "pancake batter" in the coolant resevoir and well as the crankcase. It was ugly.

I have heard of many sitautions where there was oil only in the coolant and it turned out to be a failed oil cooler.

Good luck..!

From what I hear, I was told of two local shops....one in Manotick "Autobahn" and one in Vars. I may check out the one in Vars as I live in Embrun.

I would also suggest talking to AutoImport on Woodward who have done good work for me or RJ Motors in Kanata (who I have heard good things about, but have not used personally). You could also talk to Tapp Auto who knows 996s reasonably well.
