Help,

Top was stuck down and slight uneven-ness in clamshell on left side. No motion when button pushed but sound coming from rear. Took it to my usual Porshe mechanic and he was able to get top up by pushing button (he said) but now clam shell problem is much worse its up on one side by 3-4 inches and maybe two inches on the other side and top wont work. light is illuminated on dash. Think the mechanic may have forced the top up incorrectly? More importantly, what may be wrong? Not real handy with cars and certainly not the Boxster. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to mine...

Here's what to check. More than likely the cables how broken. There are that are driven by one motor. When one cable breaks, the motor carries thus lifting the clam shell on one side and not the other. If you keep trying to open it, there is a red/white plastic ball joint on the end of the arm that connects to the top and that will break stopping everything.

There is a way to release the top and do everything manually but you will probably have to get from the drivers/passenger seat and pry off off the spring that is connected to the clamshell.

If you want, give me a call 616-304-1951.

When this happened to my 01 S it freaked me out....unfortunately my clem shell is bent so I'm hoping to get it straightened out. I purchased the replacement cables and push rods from Sunset Porsche...$140 for everyhing.

Now my mechanic says the left side motor is not spinning and may need to be replaced. Can there be any other reason that the motor wouldnt function other than complete failure?

Did I understand you correctly that there is only one motor for both sides?

I've been fooling around my top problems for the last three weeks. Posts from Maurice helped me a lot!, so try to find all of his posts, and you'll probably find the cause and answer to your problem. As I undersand, there's only one motor located at rhe rear, under center of clamshell, and two transmissions actuated by cables. Did you verify the pushrods with the palstic ball insert? there's one per side?

Good luck and Hope this helps!.

Best regards
