P0349

[993GT2]

I'm having this CEL code:

P0349 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit

Bank 2

Does anyone have a clue of what it should be?

Camshaft rotor (phase sender wheel) damaged.

If there are no other faults - I would reset the fault code and see if it comes back.

Is this the one located at the back of the camshaft? (behind the engine)

Yes at the rear of the camshaft - near the position sensor.

These can easily be damaged by someone removing or replacing the camshaft cover.

Would this maybe cause a slight loss of power also? I have the same perisistent fault code. Cleared it and it came back within a couple starts.

Is this a DIY repair for someone somewhat mechanically inclined or something that I should have a Porsche mechanic do?

I have the same... a 2004 Cayenne S (US model).

Hi Loren,

The master mechanic told me that the sensor on the *Passenger Side* needs to be changed. Can you confirm if *Bank 2* is on the passenger side?

But now I'm confused...since you mentioned ***Camshaft rotor (phase sender wheel) damaged.***

So is it the rotor or the sensor?

I own a 04 cayenne turbo.

Hi Loren,

I don't think its the *Ignition bar module* which you posted. By seeing the Fault code from Durametric, are you able to let me know which number on the engine diagram i need to change?

I think you missed my point - the diagram shows bank 2 is the left side of the car (drivers side for US/Canada cars).

Do you get the exact same fault code (P0439) and no other faults?

mmmm...i was just reading some other post regarding the oil change....The reason why I decided to write this was because I was told and HAVE just changed the oil. They said doing this might make the engine light go away. I guess its not the oil or filter thats throwing off the engine light...

So the code came out and P0349 was the only code that popped out.

The mechanic told me to change the camshaft sensor 996 606 106 02....but he told me it was the passenger side.

But now I can confirm with him its the driver side. (i'm in canada)

Sry to confuse you or anyone else reading this, I saw different fault codes(but similar) regarding the same thing and just wanted to make sure that I'm paying the mechanic to fix the RIGHT issue.

As I said near the top of this thread - I think it best to clear the code (before replacing any parts) and see if it comes back.

P0349 continues......

I got this after changing out the valve cover gasket on the driver side.  What did I touch? what did I accidentally unplug? does anyone have any photo to where this sensor is?

I Reset & drove couple of times - it keeps coming back.  I have no loss of performance!

Ok folks,  P0349 - from all the sites I have researched all pointed to replacing the cam position sensor.  I replaced it - no good! same error: P0349!  Help!
