We have an 03 cayenne which has developed a strange problem where the gas cap pops open by itself while car is on. You can hear the lock mechanism opening while in car every few minutes

Does any one have an idea for how to fix this or troubleshoot?

Thanks

Check to see that the clip is on fuel door (item 12 below).

You asked for tips and did not say what you thought the problem was - a common problem is to lose that clip then it will not latch and stay closed.

955.504.899.00 guide sleeve (item 8) -- US MSRP $1.64 -- I doubt this is it unless it is damaged. More likely the solenoid assembly.

955.624.773.01 Actuator (solenoid) -- US MSRP 27.05

No worries. I appreciate tour feedback. I will try getting solenoid replaced. You think it's easy DYi job?

You will likely need to remove the wheel/tire and wheel well cover to get good access to the solenoid.

If you can hear it unlocking every few minutes, I doubt it would be the solenoid. Sounds like the solenoid is getting energized when it shouldn't be.

oddly enough the gas flap has resumed working normally for the past few days. the only thing I did different was have the car detailed.

perhaps water caused some issue with switch?
