I bought a 99 boxster and the seller told me it was in "manual mode" (whatever the hell that means) basically, when I drive over a bump, the top bounces and the windows roll up and down. Is "manual mode" an actual feature or is that just BS for your top is broke? I'm trying to get it back to electronic mode. When I press the button, the motor sounds healthy but nothing moves. Not even a little bit. We brought in out resident car expert and this is what he had to say:

"eh holmes, something in there is like... not connected or whatever, but the motor's good, essay. yo my cousin could fix that **** for you. I'll bring it back next week"

I have to ask this question although it may seem obvious but you are unlatching the top at the front position on the top middle of the windscreen? If you aren't you need to if you are and nothing is moving and you hear the motors running then there are two cables that the motors turn to lower and raise the top. They act like drive shafts and if the are broken or disconnected your top will not operate. This is probably the reason you were told it is in "manual" mode and that is only used to either raise or lower the top in a situation where the automatic feature is not working and is designed to be used once so you can get the car to a repair facility and have the top repaired. I would find myself a dealer or a good Porsche third party mechanic and take it in for evaluation because essai knows nada.
