Front Boot / Trunk won't always open

The front boot on my '02 has become super fussy. If I drive the car for over 50 miles on a warm day I find the front trunk won't open. No clicking sound. Nada. After the car cools off the boot usually opens.

I can take the the car the grocery store, but it is had to store luggage for a road trip since I'm not sure when I will be able to retrieve the bags from the front boot fortress.

We have used the emergency release cable, but mine isn't easy to reach and the last time my husband tried it he pulled out the windshield wiper fluid cable instead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
