Hi,

I think i may have damaged MAF sensor - at 3rd lap at DE car threw CEL and durametric showed multiple misfires on all cylinders. as it is not very likely to damage all valve lifters at once so i would like to hope it is MAF sensor. Plus i just cleaned K&N filter i had and sprayed a bit of WD40 on it, just a bit but probably it was enough.

So after DE I came home, gave sensor a good bath in a MAF cleaner, started up car, it ran a bit with no CEL, then gave CEL again. engine does misfire, torque is lost a lot, there is some vibration but engine does not stall. I will get durametric in a couple of days to see list of codes but meanwhile i used my AiM logger and in race studio i see MAF data channel from ODB2 port shows reasonable data - in 5-8 on idle, when stepped on throttle it goes up to 70-80 and may be above, so, sensor does not seem to be totally dead. But car still misfires like crap - so, should it do it if sensor is, like, a bit off from its calibration?

Could anybody give detailed data on what voltage should come out from MAF sensor on idle and, say, at 2K and 4K rpm? car is 2006 997 C2, 3.6L engine, MAF sensor model is 986... something, i can check it later again if it is critical.

The voltage should not change.

It's the amount of amps and you need to

cut the wire to read amps.

- PLEASE DO NOT CUT THE WIRES.

Use Durametric (or PIWIS tester) to read the Air mass ML in kg/h

At idle you should have between 12-24 Air mass ML in kg/h

At no load (AC, and everything else off) you should have 50-80 Air mass ML in kg/h

Please state ALL the fault codes so we can help you.

Ignition on: 0.9 to 1.1 volts.

Engine at idle around 1.2 volts.

A good Air mass meter reads around 14 to 18 kg/hr when engine temperature is between 80 and 90 degrees celsius.

I'm having a CEL with my car (997.1), I just picked up a Durametric and got 2 codes off it P1096 and P1097 Mass air flow ahead of throttle valve - implausible 

 

Car will not idle with the MAF plugged in (without pedal assistance), and unplugged it idles fine. Durametric shows voltage before start is 1.01-1.02 when started the voltage doesn't change.

 

What else can I do to prove it's a non functional MAF or do I just need to go out and  order a new one (any recommended brand and place to order from)? 

 

This might be related but I doubt it, about 1000 miles ago installed BMC filter, IPD, and GT3 throttle body, no issues after installing those for the 1000 miles.

Try removing the MAF and cleaning it with a MAF cleaner spray.

I got MAF cleaner, cleaned it  (MAF looked almost new before cleaning), let it dry and cleared the codes.

 

Started up the car and waited for the codes, normally the CEL would flash right away so I took the car out for a drive and after about 3 miles got the same CEL codes again.

 

Took some logs and voltage isn't changing on the MAF 1.0107 volts (had to give it gas to get it to idle).

Checked and cleaned it anyway (as it's just about new), still same issues.

Follow up, it was a bad MAF. Got the part in today, replaced it with the same (looks like a v2) Bosch part number, and the car is happy again.
