Battery cut off it is. My dealer has a box of them ready to be sent back.

Strange that rod is not mentioned in the owners manual, because it is not mentioned on the paper fuse list. I was told the Cayenne also has something like this.

The "safety triangle" you use when you're stopped on the highway cuz you floored it for a few miles 2 days after the low fuel warning light came on! (This happened to a "friend" nudge-nudge)

If you buy base Boxster with Tiptronic it does not have air vent in centre ?

I don't think the base Boxster with a tip has the transmission cooler in the front. Just the S.

When the 986 production moved to Finland for model year 1998 I never understood why a few boxsters a week were still being made in Germany.

So they would not forget how to make the car. :huh:

I think some of the early production Boxsters were made in German (early 987's) but recently nearly 100% have been coming from Finland. What was the build date on the car in the photo?

I did not look at the date on the 2 German cars. They could not have been on the lot for more than 2 weeks.

My dealer got their 2 launch cars in January like all other dealers. Both were made in Finland.

There are 2 people who have recently done the factory tour in Zuffenhausen and they reported seeing Boxsters being made. I guess it is true.

This is a first post so go easy on me.

I was told that Porsche regulalrly run a few Boxsters through Stuttgart as part of contingency planning if the relationship with Valmet ever went sour. Then they would still have the capability and knowledge on the production line tocontinue building Boxsters. This also adds to factory lead times quoted at 7 months when cars actually arrive in less than 3 in some instances. Again if things went wrong at Valmet and they switched production, Porsche could still safely quote the 7 month lead time and meet their contractual obligations.

Trivia, what is wrong with this window sticker? The same sticker is in the bottom 2 pictures.

sticker says 2006, but Scouser's VIN decoder says it's a 2005!?

That's it. According to the matching VINs on the window sticker and windshield it is a 2005, but the window sticker says it is a 2006. Look at the 5 in front of the U in the VIN. The sticker on the door has the same 2005 VIN and has it has a build date of June.

The salesperson I know said there was a 2006 out back so I looked for it. Then he went out back with me to check for himself. It has been reported so I expect the rear car will get a replacement Monroney sticker.

The front car was stickered as a 2005 and had a 2005 VIN, so it was ok.

Pics of the VIN through the windshield and the door sticker. Car was made in June so it is one of the last 2005s.

no more rubber plug for faux dipstick?

Hmm, after looking at both pics without foggy late night eyes, there appear to be rubber dipstick plugs on both 05 and 06s. Will hand this off to one of the kids of the guys at work who routinely studies "Highlights for Children", specifically "What's wrong with this picture" :oops:

At our 987 tech session I found out where Porsche put the emission sticker.  It is now on the engine lid.

That is it. 2005 had a rubber plug for where the dipstick would be. No plug on the 2006s I looked at. As a joke I was going to take the dipstick from my 986, remove the plug on a 987, put my dipstick in and take a picture. But the 2006s at my dealer had no plug.

The picture below is a 2005 with the plug removed.

I have been seeing this on the 2006s. A mechanic told me that when the car is in the transit mode the designated speed cannot in fact be exceeded.

I'd love to be able to set my 986 into a 'transit mode' when it goes into the shop for tyres etc... :rolleyes:
