Crank position sensor removal?

996 3.4 - trying to replace the crankshaft (reference) position sensor.

Question - how do you unplug the connector. Can barely see it from underneath.

Is there a clip or latch?

It's a clip on the upper right hand (white) connector.

Does the clip slide towards the block? Anything holding the clip or can I just push on it until it comes off?

Maybe these will help. The clip is on the top connector and once depressed the connector slides away from the engine. The part that is attached to the sensor is also clipped into a metal harness.

Got it un pluged and out of the clamp... Now I need to see if I can see the other end of the wire for the sensor.Any idea on how to get to that one??

It is best to take the drivers side tire off to see better. Then with the car jacked up you can see alot more where you need to be. Their is a clip on the top of the connector you can push it down at the rear of the connedtor. This is not to easy but it can be done. After you realse the clip and unplug the connector you will have a C clip holding the 2nd part of the sensor cable that one you can work a screwdriver under and gently pry it up and out just do not use to much force. Now look for the sensor follow the wire and you will see it at the location of the flywheel it will have one hex bolt you will need a long one to make it easy to undo or a hex socket with long ext. After that is bolt is out it will come out just reach back and wiggle it abit it will come out. That is all you need to do..Daniel :thumbup:

Thanks for the pictures - they were definitely worth more than a thousand words - especially the ones I was using trying to reach the connector!

The new sensor did the trick. Drove it in 90 heat and doesn't stall and restarts hot!
