The previous owner of my 2000 Boxster S did a pretty good job of removing the charcoal canister ( behind the passenger wheel well), purge valve and all the hoses that were all part of the evaporative recovery system for vapors from the fuel tank. Lately, I have started to smell gas fumes in the cabin as th weather has gotten warmer. I am trying to buy all the components that made up the evap from salvage yards/online, but the problem I am facing is how to connect them all together. I looked at the Bentley manual for the Boxster , but it is very sparse with details , and has only one vague sketch on the evap system. Can someone point me to a diagram that will allow me to reconstruct the evap system. Or can I vent the tank in an appropriate and safe manner so that fumes do not enter the cabin? If so, a diagram of how to do so would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This is the general path diagram - perhaps it will help.

Did they remove the secondary air system too? I suspect you have a CEL (or he removed the light).

Loren,

Thanks for the diagrams. The secondary air pump has been removed but no CEL is on. There is a short hose to the intake manifold has been plugged. I will have a friend check it for any codes.

Loren, would you know the physical locations of where to look for #3 ,5,and 7 in the diagram you sent? Is # 3or #7 what is referred to as the purge valve ( where the fumes are sucked into the intake manifold)

Hi all, I am having the reverse problem and hope that you can help.

My 2001 Boxster S is a dedicated racing car and I have been having vacuum problems with the breather system on the tank.

After talking to some people, I have been told that the charcoal canister and related parts are not required on a racing car and that I might as well remove it all.

Problem is that I do not want to have the CEL come on due to the system having been removed.

It looks like andyman has managed to have it all removed in his car with no CEL coming on, so very interested to know how this has been done.

Anyone able to help me with removing the system and still tricking the computer to think all is OK? I will assume I need to trick it by altering some of the sensors?
