what is the biggest and most important thing to do at 60k? I inquired with the dealer here and was quoted a price of $1800 and was wondering if it's the labor that's the killer.

The maintenance schedules are located on the DIY Menu at the top of this page. Im not sure if you have to be a contributing member or not. The 60K schedule is very important as it is considered a major maintenance interval.

I would Do It Yourself (DIY), contribute to Renntech and keep your money in your pocket.

new timing belt would be the big issue, also possibly a new water pump. I got into the habit of changing the fan belt at every major service on my old SC, which I did every 15k, or every 3rd oil change. Obsessive compulsive, yes, but it was not a big deal. I did a new timing belt on the 996 at 30k, and would not want to go beyond 15k intervals.

judgejon, I think you mean the serpentine belt, not timing belt in your note?? There is no timing belt but as you know, rather a timing chain ( with tensioners internal)..

To keep cost down, supply the parts after paying half off dealer's prices at some online stores. Including oil.

For the dealers the most important part of the 60K service is meeting their profit goals. Look at the list and do it yourself. Much of this service is "inspections" looking for problems/items they can charge you for.
