Hi,

I am new to the forum but I m trying to find a company in the U.S. to import my foreign 2007 Porsche Cayman S. I need a company that has some experience and knows what is required. Porsche USA wont help, the dealer here in Dubai, UAE is useless and Porsche in Germany doesn't care. I have reviewed the NHTSA and DOT as well as the EPA websites and understand the process but I need to find a company that knows what they are doing. Many of the U.S. importers just tell me they are not interested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

DIY. most cars go the other way around (out of USA) that is why most companies dont care. You may look at US prices and decide if it is worth the hassle of tax/conversion/shiping. Maybe you save 1-2k USD by bringing your car over is it worth the trouble?

Is the car US/Canada spec? If not the conversion may cost you a chunk - I am not sure that the US waves standards for "used" cars anymore. I know they do for "show cars" (not driven daily on the street).

PM member Orient Express - he likely knows or can find out for sure.

The trouble is not the issue. The issue is that I sell the car in the Middle East for half the value since the buyers know you are leaving the country. So even if the cost is 20K USD then its worth it. The thing I do not understand is that its not an EPA things since the car exhaust is the same as the US spec cars. I have to pass emissions testing in order to register the car in Dubai. Additionally it isn't a safety thing since I have 6 airbags, SRS system just like the U.S. The speedo can display either KMph or MPH with the push of a button. The only difference is the bumpers and I don't think that justifies a 20K USD price tag for the conversion. The DOT really needs to update themselves on new standards but I just don't see that happening.

waiting for DOT to change is not a solution as we all know. Headlights, rear turn signals, side blinkers (on 2007 car it is controlled by PIWIS) are different under DOT and Euro standards that I am 100% sure as I imported my car to Europe from the US. Emission is unlikely to be an issue. Tax may depend on a state but not on a make of a car. Internet is your source. Booking a container is easy (being in Dubai this must be like sending DHL :).
