Extended Warranty

Looking for thoughts on an extended warranty on a 2007 S. The OEM warranty ends in a week so I am considering purchasing a 6 year 60k for $5200. The vehicle has been very reliable with only a couple of warranty repairs, none were mechanical. I feel that the most likely stuff to go is the convertible top push rods, sensors, switches and in rare cases something mechanical which makes it tough to justify the warranty cost. But if something mechanical does go it will be expensive. This is a summer fun car with less than 25k miles. Thoughts???

In the end it is about your comfort level. You just never know, so how risk averse are you? For $5200, I would take a risk, and just bank the $5200 personally. I am guessing that over the next 35K you will not need $5200 in repairs (items actually covered) although they add up quickly and you just never know...So it comes down to personal preference and willingness to take any risk with it? The nature of insurance :) Good luck with your decision!

Also..if you decide to go with a warranty, I would at least shop as that seems very high to me?

Many extended warranties turn out to not be worth the paper they are written on, or at best very difficult to enforce, so be very careful before you turn over your cash, you may find out you would have been better off saving it as a contingent for future repairs instead……..

Actually from what I have read and found out this is a fairly comprehensive warranty. It comes down to risk and from what I have seen so far the Boxster has been a reliable vehicle. Just wondering if others have experienced the same

I have been researching the same thing for a 2006 987S with 38,000 miles. This Renntech forum has recommended Paragon as a reputable company that stands behind their warranty on Porsche cars. They quoted me a 5 year/ 75K mileage warranty with $100 deductable for $2,600 on their "Ultimate Pkg" bumper to bumper coverage. This is with an A-Excellent rated company with a 97% payout if you believe their stats. Might be a more reasonable option for you.

My dealer recommended Fidelity as well. I guess they do their CPO Extended warranty work. They quoted me someting like $9800 for a 3 year/36K warratny. I'd rather bank my own repair money and take my chances at that cost.

I got an extended Porsche CPO on my turbo (2 years, 100k miles) for $3,300.

I'm with you... At that cost just put the money aside in case you need it...

I have decided to pass on the extended warranty as I also believe the cost/benefit isn't there. The company I was looking at is Fidelity which I have heard nothing but good things about. Interesting in that the dealer had the best price on the warranty. Thanks for all the feedback. We'll see what happens especially now that we have 3 cars with no warranty.

Seems like these companies try to get out of paying for the major items. I asked two Porsche dealerships 'Service guys' if they had experience with their specific (the one that the dealership sells) warranty company covering items such as intermediate shaft, RMS etc. The reply is typically "no experience with that". Also no comments/experience with the warranty paying out for small issues. It seesm to me that if these warranty companies were covering what it stated, and customers were using them, the service guys could provide some examples (at least a few) where a customers issue was actually covered? Seems strange to me.

Will your dealer give you an extended warranty? That's the way to go..... You only have 25k on the car. I got an additional 2 years 100k miles for my 07 Turbo for $3,300. The warranty has already paid for itself by 2 times..

have fidelity on my 02 996 C2- bought car with 17k miles in 7/07 now has about 30k, bought Fidelity platinum from dealer shortly after buying car, fidelity paid for repairs at dealer for key remote not working, oil sender

unit, RMS replacement. Warranty was $3800 for 6 yr 75k bought about 3 1/2 yrs ago. - hoping not to have to use it for IMS repair.

Debating whether to get same extended coverage for wife's 07 boxster S that is coming out of warranty- but cost is very high $5k for 6 yr 100k- most likely will self insure and take a chance at that cost.

Got quote from Sunset Porsche for Fidelity warranty on boxster (they sell out of state & have no sales tax). got dealer to come down significantly from their initial quote for coverage and they almost matched Sunset price (excluding sales tax).
