when I changed the air filters on my 2008 Cayenne GTS I noticed an extra intake hole on top of each air box, about 3X5.5 inches with a thin piece of material stretched across.

I can't imagine much air flow around this intake since its within the engine bay and protected by the plastic covers. but it is there and must serve a purpose.

has anyone else seen this on their Cayenne? I didn't see these extra intake holes while viewing pics of S or Turbo models.

any guesses on function? does the GTS need a little more air than the S model so they cut a hole on top of the air box?

I've called a couple dealerships and nobody knows or cares.

Do you have a picture?

sorry no picture.

not much to see, the hole is on the cavernous side of the air box bolted to the body. to take a picture I would have to remove that section which means disconnecting the snorkel, probably not a fun process.

I had someone hold the throttle at 3k and I put my hand over the hole, there is air flow but no suction, probably because the snorkel moves so much air volume already.

I've tried to find a parts diagram to see if this was just the new box as of 2008 but no luck.
