I actually picked it up a few weeks ago but last weekend did my first run with it out in the countryside - felt fantastic ;))

Most of my cars have been manual, but I find the throws to 3rd and 5th are somewhat long (as compared to my Boxster and my G35). I have heard there are short throw shifters available, any experience which one is best?

Also, any recommendations for a good 3M clear bra installer in the Toronto area?

Thanks.

I have an MY02 Targa. I too thought the shift throws were too long. So I installed a B&M short shifter. (I might add that I have an MY03 Boxster 2.7/5 speed transmission with a B&M short shifter which I love.) I didn't like - after a year plus - the feel of the B&M with the 6 speed transmission. It had the dreaded "notchy" feel. Last month, I replaced the B&M with a Porsche 997 short shift unit. It feels much "silkier" but has a throw that is, in terms of length of throw, somewhere between the B&M and the stock unit.

I wonder if the difference I have felt between the two cars is caused by the difference in the transmissions, i.e., 5 speed vs 6 speed.

I hope you enjoy your new ride.

I have the porsche oem sport shifter on my 997.1 C4S . I love it and and the precision is much better then the stock shifter.

I also have the Porsche/B&M unit on my Boxster 5 speed.. No comparison. the 997 short shifter feels smoother, more precise and less notchy then the B&M.

Stick with the Porsche oem short shifter for the 997 rather than aftermarket. Order it from Sunset imports and get a decent price. Still pricier then B&M, but over the long run you will be very happy.

Just be sure to mark the cables correctly while installing. I would not even think twice about it. You will feel more precise control and

the whole driving experience will feel that much sharper.

all the best,

Bill
