Engine Cleaning/Shampoo

I always think that a vehicle, whether it be a car, boat or motorcycle, runs better with a clean engine... agree or not... they certainly look better.

In the old days it didn't seem so hard to find a guy with a steam cleaning service that would give the engine compartment a good once over but with the newer engines and all the electrical components I am a little wary.

Has anyone cleaned their 996 engine bay and have any recommendations to products, techniques, or do's and don'ts?

I would be seriously careful about using any form of high pressure wash on a modern engine bay. Cars today, P included, have a ton of electronics and other crap that the cars in the old days didn't. Getting that stuff internally wet will spell disaster. In the old days if you got the distributor wet all you had to do was blow it out with some compressed air and on your way. Not so easy today.

I have used the Autoglym Engine & Machine cleaner works pretty well, I just spray on and then wipe/polish off with a damp cloth

(I don't hose down the engine of course)

That was my thought as well.... however there must be a technique using solvents (green) and low pressure water.... I have yet to see a dirty engine bay on any car for sale, at least at a reputable dealer.

I used concentrated "Simple Green" and a soft cloth and flushed with clean water.
