I read through the forums and discussed this with the local Porsche dealer and am getting conflicting information on how to fix the Protect error. I have a 2004 Cayenne that had a PCM in it. When the PCM when out I replaced it with a used CDR23 and now I get the protect error. The dealer says that it should work or the radio is bad and needs to be replaced but on here it sounds like I just need to verify that the car is coded to the CDR 23. My only problem is I think the dealer needs to do this but doesn't seem to know how. Any one help?

Yes, the dealer needs to run the MOST diagnostic that looks for the all the host controllers. Once this is done the components are matched and the errors go away.

Any shop with a Porsche PST2 or PIWIS can likely do that same for you... as it sounds like the dealer lacks some training.
