So i bought a Cayenne 2005 from a car dealer. When we tried the car, the navigation system was working great, showing the right position of the car on the map.

Three days later, when getting the car from the dealer, the gps is showing the wrong position of the car, about 120 km away from the actual position.

Was thinking about a factory reset, but I want to know if someone has some other clues to this problem?

Give it a few days/driving cycles and it probably will lock in your proper position and you'll be set. I changed my battery and the same thing occured. Now it's fine.

check how many satelites it sees. (how to do so is decribed in PCM manual). if less than 3 you just need to get to a different location it will fix itself. if none are visible antenna is gone bad.

Nevermind previous post, I got the same problem again...

As soon as I traveled about 150 km from home, I turned on the gps (after those kms) and it gave me wrong position again. It was only connecting to 1-2 satellites.

When i was back home it found the right position again.

So what? Do I have to turn on the gps as soon as i travel with the car, so it stays in position?? Or is it something wrong now...

Not sure where you are in Sweden but the GPS constellation has some gaps -- not total gaps but sections which do not have the same level of satellites per sq/km then others. It's odd though -- most NATO or NATO-proximity countries have enough GPS coverage for basic functions (time/space location). Other constellations are in development but for you, Galileo will not be operational until 2013 and your vehicle (stock) will not interact with Galileo when it launches in 2013. The Russian Federation has something similar to US GPS as does China -- you can research those options. But, all this said, you simply may have a problem with your GPS receiver. When was the last time your vehicle has it's battery replaced?

>

Galileo will be a global network of at least 22 satellites providing precise timing and location information to users on the ground and in the air. Its development will cost billions of euros and it will become operational by the end of 2013. The investment makes Galileo one of the biggest space projects initiated in Europe.

Cayenne GPS antenna (covered under the rear door spoiler) are very sensitive to wet conditions. It usually ends with a new antenna.

Ok, seems like I will have to check the antenna then... Someone have an idea what a new one will cost?
