Hi fellas, I'm wondering about the ability to swap tiptronic transmissions between the different model years and engine options. I understand that in most cases the transmission control unit will have to be matched to the corresponding transmission but with that in mind would it be possible to swap in a Boxster 'S' 3.2 Tiptronic in to a '98 equipped with a 2.5? How about the other way around ('98 trans in to '04 car) again keeping in mind BOTH the transmission and the TCU? If this would work I understand that there will be different gear ratios than original but could the ratios be so far off as to make the car an absolute slug (or rocket)? Thanks for any help!

Anybody? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this trans but would hate to have it not work for some reason. So, to sum up: an A86.20 Tipper with matching TCU in to a car originally equipped with an A86.00. Thanks!

Hello

I've swap a ZF A86.00 with an 2001 ZF A86.05 In my old 1997 Boxster 986,

I also had the matching 2001 transmission TCU, but endup using the old one.

My Motronic was not able to see the newer TCU because of the MOST interface.

But dont worry, the tranny should work well with the old Control anyway.

You can see my topic about this here..

Good luck

Makes sense that it would but it sure would be nice to hear from someone who has done this. Since the trans is coming from a MOST Bus car (I Believe) does it not need the MOST Bus TCU to operate? A lot can change on a seemingly similar car over 6 - 7 years!

I think you mean CAN -- MOST is for audio stuff only.
