For my hobby project I have obtained a 997-2 instrument cluster which I intend to use in a simracing environment. I have obtained the wiring diagram from Porsche and have figured out which pin does what, but with all the digital components these days that doesn't quite get me as far as I had hoped. Several diagnostics such as fuel/oil level and brake pad wear have their own pins, but the most vital gauges (tacho and speedo) are controlled with the digital signal coming over the CAN pins. (In addition to that the thing is currently driving me mad about loss of rear spoiler controls etc. but fortunately it stops beeping after the first occurence. :))

Is anyone here familiar with the digital signals meant for controlling the tacho and speedo gauges? All the other stuff that is controlled in this way would also be nice to know about, but are not as crucial. If at all possible I intend to throw in some DIY hours on putting together a microcontroller that can simulate these signals for me. It would help me enormously if anyone could help me with regards to data sheets/signal descriptions/possibly existing simulation solutions.

By the way, I do realize this is quite an ambitious project, but if I can get it to work after lots of work I know it will make the result feel all the more worthwhile. :)
