poor radio reception

Hi again..

My car seems to have terrible radio reception, I own a garage so i drive customers cars to and from

work quite a lot so i know that radio reception is ok my my everyday route.

My 2002 C4 cabrio has the PCM 1 fitted and im guessing the antenna is around the windscreen?

Are there any boosters that I can fit, or should I be looking for a problem somewhere?

Any advise would be appreciated as its driving me nuts...

I think this is par for the course, that's why I added an iPod. The antenna booster is in the right side "A" pillar (at least it is for left-hand drive cars). I examined mine and cleaned the ground but there was no noticeable difference.

Sometimes, cleaning up and/or improving the ground at the bolt directly to the right of the arrow in Richard's photo will improve reception and/or reduce static.

Unscrew that bolt, clean off any surface corrosion and coat the area with some dielectric grease to see if the situation improves.

1. Remove the sun visor. It simply pulls out

2. Use the small flat screw driver to pry of plastic cover on visor base. When removed, you will see the Hex bolt heads

3. Use the 4 mm Hex wrench key to remove both bolts. Hold on to the part, it has washers on the other side and can get fall off if not careful.

4. Now pull off the A-pillar cover to reveal the cables underneath.

Just to note on step 4, the a-pillar cover simply snaps out, and does require a little force if I remember right. There are some plastic or metal compression rivets that snap the cover into place on the frame into the oval holes on the a-pillar frame in the picture above.

Is the antanna amp a frequent item to fail? Obviuosly checking the ground as suggested first is great advice, but $100 for a new amp is not too bad if these have a high rate of failure.
