Note Pic is from water coolant repair DIY from RennTech per Loren with my photo shop red markings- hope that is ok to use pic. If not I will remove.)

Need to replace the coolant hose marked by the red dots. I cannot find a 996 engine diagram on Pelikan parts to order, as 996s are not covered.

Questions:

1. Can I substitute regular coolant hose from NAPA.

2. It also appears the hose clamps are crimped and not meant to be removed. Can these be cut off and replaced with a worm screw?

3. Finally- the hose mid way ( at red arrow) is held to the engine by a plastic insert. Does this insert perfrom any functional flow restriction, or only serve to secure it away from engine heat?

Thanks

Scott

post-7011-0-04039500-1301617804_thumb.jp You need a set of hose clamp pliers to remove the OEM hose clamps. Get the kind shown here with the cable, make it much easier to get a hard to reach locations, and there are lots of these clamps in awkward places. I recommend replacing the spring type hose clamps with screw type.

Many owners say not to use anything but the Porsche OEM coolant. Myself I use Peak 50/50, but I did draian and flush my entire system. There is some who say mixing the coolants can cause the OEM coolant to jell. The Porsche coolant is ridiculously expensive.

Once you have replaced the hose you will need to bleed the air out of the system. I use a vacuum bleeder, but there is a bleeder on the top of the reservoir.

Are you sure that the hose you have marked in red is a coolant hose? I would look on my car but it is dark outside. However, in all the work I have done I don't remember that as being a coolant hose.

Found the answer. The hose is the oil separator line. It runs coolant. The plastic piece that connects the two parts is just to mount the hose in a secure position away from the heat of the engine and out of the way of the serpentine belt. Part number 996.106.226.52 $6. It comes with worm gear clamps.
