My 77 911S Targa is difficult to shift into 1st gear. This is more difficult when the car is stopped so most of the time I try to drop it into 1st as I coast into a stop although to do this can be tricky because if you are going too fast it will grind. Do I have a syncro problem on first gear, if there is a syncro on first, or is this normal. I haven't checked the linkage adjustment yet but it's on my list. My other thought on this was is it a cluch problem not fully releasing. My cluch is all top heavy and only engages in the top few inches.

You can try adjusting the clutch but you should not put the 901 or the 915 gears boxes into 1st while driving.

They have weak syncro teeth and loose their points and causes hard engagement.

Best thing to do is come to a full stop then go from 2nd up in to 1st
