Thanks to RFM I cleaned the throttle on my 997 this weekend: major change. Car feels like new.

I would like to do the same on my wifes '08 turbo, but I got stuck (just before the finish line). I expected to find a ring, holding down the air hose to the throttle body, but there isn't. Anybody knows the trick to reach the throttle body? There are some stranges plastic bolts (2x wich an attachement knob on it). I tried turning these but that did not do anything. I guess something actually broke off underneath the bolt, but it is still stuck. Don't want to ruin anything. I prefer to leave the body on the car (if I could get it loose anyway).

Is it ok to use carburator cleaner on this engine? It worked fine on my 997, but I remember reading something about CC not being suitable for DFI engines or turbo's? Just checking.

Probably the locks on the plastic bolts are already broken off, but this poses no problem. Pull them strait out, remove the clamps L & R on the belows near the MAF sensors, remove the small rubber tube at the bottom of the black metal intake tube, remove the pressure sensor connector on the intake tube, pull the intake tube off the throttle body, pull the tube out of the bellows L & R, place the tube out of the way, check the O-ring on damage (inside the tube>throttle body side). The throttle body is reachable for cleaning. It works easier with the plastic trim above the radiators removed. Hope it helps.

If used carefully and in small quantities, it may not hurt.

Done, improvement/difference is way less then on the 911. There wasn't a lot of residu on the throttle house. Idle is noticable smoother and throttle response improved as well.

10 minutes job. Highly recommended!
