I have a 2001 C4 cabriolet. I went to adjust the clock yesterday. Per the manual:

  • Pressed and held the clock set knob
  • When the hours started blinking I used the knob to adjust the hours
  • Pressed the set knob to move to the minutes and twisted the knob to adjust
  • Pressed the set knob one more time to return to normal operation.

Looked like it worked fine until I turned the motor off and pulled out the key. Now the hour in the time display started blinking as if it were back in the "time set" mode. And all the digital displays on the dash stayed on. They didn't shut off like they normally do. With the ignition off you can't adjust the time or use the set knob to take it out of "set mode".

I turned the car back on and tried a number of different combinations of setting the clock. For example, the manual said that if you left the clock in "set mode" it would automatically revert back to "run mode" if you didn't do anything for a couple minutes. Just like the manual says, it reset back into run mode after a few minutes. But when I turned the key off... right back to the blinking hour display and set mode.

Having all the digital displays remaining active on the dash can't be good if I were to leave the car for a couple days without the battery charger connected.

Anyone ever see this before? Got any suggestions?

Bill

I've seen many postings here that seem to indicate you could have a problem with the ignition switch. and I wonder if there's a separate module for the clock that might need to be changed out. and some folks have had problems leading to a replacement of the entire display. good luck...

Well, I had the ignition switch replaced about a year ago. Maybe I'll get lucky and that's all it will be. Thanks.

Hello everybody, i'm a new user and this is my first message (I have a 99 C2 Cabriolet Automatic).

I have the same problem and i have just replace the ignition switch but the problem remaining.

I found this video that show what is the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db0sYars7f4&list=PLwL2oesXs5pFzOFsUqdINfA0vhUWub1m8&index=30&t=0s

Someone have found a solution?

Here the list of my test done:

1) Verify all fusible. Alls are ok. (no improvement)

2) Replace the ignition switch with new one. (no improvement)

3) Disconnect the ignition switch wire connector. Inside it there is a little button. This button is pressed when you put the key inside a hole and start to turning on. When you tourning off the Key, in the exact moment of unpressing inside button, the dash light came off for half a second and return on with blinking hour clock. (no improvement)

4) I try to chek all the relay behind rear seat but all are ok (because i hear a buzz simultaneously unpressing inside button of step 3). (no improvement)

5) Disconnect the B1 fusible for disable current on dashboard to avoid to disconnect battery every night.

6) Unmount Gauges and verify the correct function of button to set time. (no improvement)

7) I view this video and the guy resolve with a used gauges, but i read in other post on the web a guy has replaced the gauges but the problem persist.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BiF2r4kkzc&list=PLwL2oesXs5pFzOFsUqdINfA0vhUWub1m8&index=27&t=35s

8 ) Unmount the Light switch and disconnect the wire plug.  When the wires are disconnect, the problem persist. (no improvement)

9 ) Here another post (not resolved) with the same problem in a Boxter https://www.renntech.org/topic/38497-99-boxster-dash-lights-wont-turn-off

Many thanks in advance.
