I've been getting a grinding noise on start occasionally. it only happens abt. 1 out of 15 times. it sounds like the starter isn't retracting fast enough from the flywheel . has anyone else had this problem??? please help if you can :)

This is a common issue caused by the Bendix drive on the starter nose sticking due to rust or crud build up. Pull the starter and clean the Bendix with something like PB Blaster (penetrating oil), then dry off and spray with DuPont Dry Teflon spray. You will be fine to go for years to come…………

Thanks for the tip! How do we access the Bendix drive? From underneath? Do you know what has to be removed to get this out?

Regards,

The starter has to come out of the car to do this; either follow the service manual or do a search, removing the starter has been covered several times.
