I have been having issues the last few months with depressing the clutch and the starter does not engage. I have pulled the floor mat back and soemtimes pushing as hard as possible will engage the starter. Thought it maybe a weak battery which I have replaced. Also purchased a new switch from Pelican, but have not replaced it yet. I was wondering if there is some type of adjustment that could be made to the existing switch, but could not find anything. Thoughts??? Just replace the switch and see if that solves the problem?

Thanks for the help!

I would replace the switch first since it is pretty simple and you already have it on hand. If that doesn't fix it I know there is what they call an "Immobilizer Induction Coil" built into the lock cylinder where you insert the key. If the connector is loose or a wire chaffing or loose, or being just plain broke, that may also cause a problem like this, Since it is specifically designed to not allow the starter to work unless the correct key is installed. But I would bet my money on the clutch switch since it is just a little cheap switch. Just a thought on some other possibilities.

You can always bypass the switch (with a jumper) to do a test.

Just remember the switch is there for your safety - so I suggest fixing the problem.

Hi, I'm new to this.

I recently purchased a 2004 Boxster S and I think I'm starting to notice an intermittent starting problem. It just doesn't start at times. When this occurs the dash lights up but then there is nothing else, no click no whir nothing. Its almost like I haven't followed a proper starting procedure or the electric signal is not getting through to the starter.

When it does turn over (the signal gets through)there is no hesitation she fires into action and she runs beautifully. The battery is new.

Is this a "clutch starter switch problem"? or is there a starting procedure besides - insert key and turn?

Could be the clutch switch - that is an easy part to rule out by doing a temporary bypass.

If not the clutch switch - then are you having any other weird electrical anomalies? If so, then I would suspect a bad ignition switch.

No, no other weird electrical anomalies.

Do you know a part number or another name for the clutch switch, I can't find it on Pelican.
