Is it a expensive propsition to change from 4 to 2 WD? I am seeing more AWD owners in local club listings that have done this. they claim more horsepower in their cars, which isnt my motivation. Anyone share the benfits or the cons outside of expense? Thanks :thankyou:

Why don't you try it by disconnecting the front diff. (like when you get it dynoed). If you like it it is not too difficult or costly. I went from a 78 930 RWD that was a bear to handle....I love the AWD FWIW.

BTW, you can't gain HP by doing this. You can lose some weight and of course have all of the power to the rear wheel, but this is not gaining HP.

By removing the front wheel drive shaft, you will reduce

the amount of moving parts and increase torque to the

rear wheels.

Removing the front differential will reduce weight there by

increasing power (weight to horsepower).

I do not think you will notice any difference unless you

take your car to the track. I think you would only shave

about 10 seconds around a 2.5 mile race track.

This is not worth all the work.

The only benefit I could see would be removing the front axles. This

would save you from replacing 4 CV boots should they crack. All

CV boots crack with time.

If I remove the front differental am I lookig at massive codes/cells going off on my car? i would like to see what its like. I also had a 930 few years back prior to this car, it was fine to control. I dont track my car, just like the idea of 2 WD.

You wont get any codes, it will save you quite a lot of weight and the car will be quicker. You could also fit the larger GT2 Fuel Tank .However I think you will miss the added safety of the 4x4 and you definitely will notice it missing especially in the wet. Should you have an accident attributable to loss of traction your insurance company will laugh at you if you try to make a claim.

You dont even have to fit stub axles as you can remove the drive shafts and leave the CV casing as they are. They make great Stub axles.

But think carefully about removing the diff and shafts and centre VC, its a lot of work just to find you loved the 4x4 set up.
