Folks,

I want to upgrade my exhaust to PSE and I have a question in regards to the install. I want to install (have installed) the on/off switch for PSE However, I do not want the auto-mute functionality. That being said, can I simply wire the switch directly to the exhaust and bypass the fuse panel?

Please forgive my ignorance in trying to describe this but I have read the many posts that describe how to disable auto-mute on factory installed PSE, but I have not found any posts that describe installing just the manual on/off capability on a car that did not originally have PSE. It would seem that you could just go direct from the switch to the exhaust and a power source?

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance!

One wire is connected to the fuse panel for power (used for powering the vacuum valve, the new relay, the LED light and the backlighting.) Another wire from the switch connects to the dimmer circuit on the relay board for backlighting when the headlights are on. One wire connects the LED light to a signal at the new relay. The system is also grounded at the relay panel.

You may be able to work out a less sophisticated connection ... but the factory wiring harness is much more complicated than straight switched power.

When you have the electronics installed, just don't hook up the grey/pink wire to the relay carrier slot 23. That's the speedo wire that 'senses' the speed at which to close the vacuum valves on the mufflers.

I just installed the electronics for the PSE and did the same thing. Here are some notes and pics of the install that may help you:

Good post! I will be attempting to complete a "full" PSE installation, soon. I have a cab. and I know the install has some minor differences than the coupe.

Hmm...maybe I should just pay the dealer a $1,000 to do the installation?

I have a question concerning the removal of the radio for the PSE install. Why do you have to remove it? I would assume that you would remove the "horseshoe" to get to the center console switch blanks to install the PSE switch.

I am unclear why you should remove the radio. Could you please clarify.

Also, is it necessary to remove the rear spoiler (bumper) to install the exhaust? I wouldn't think so.

Many thanks,

Mike

Mike--

The reason why I removed the radio was to 'fish' the wiring harness for the PSE switch through the slot where the radio was. You're right that you'd just need to remove the horseshoe (or in my case just the half since I'm a 99) to put in just the PSE switch, but I didn't see a way to fish the cable through just that space; there's a large plug on the end that goes into the PSE switch and there's not much clearance. Since I had made my own removal keys for the radio, it only took about 5 seconds to pull out anyway.

As for removing the rear spoiler and/or the bumper, no. The only things i removed were the rear tires to put the mufflers on, and even then i hear you can do it without removing them (although life is much easier when you do).

Hopefully that clears things up!

I completed the PSE with electronics install. It was pretty straightforward, however, there were MANY errors with the instructions, particularly the wiring instructions.

Other than that, it was well worth my time as the dealer quoted me around 10 hours @ 145/hr.

Besides the PSE install, I completed the garage door opener switch and rear spoiler switch mods. It took about 8 hours to complete once I realized the instructions were wrong, then I used common sense.

Hi Jeff,

Your tips were great...saved my bacon! I have a cab, so it was a little tricky running the two wires to the engine compartment.

Thanks for all your help!
