was it like a hot burning smell? Cat's might have got hot running that mile with surging fuel pressure.

It isn't model specific as far as most of us can tell since the same fuel system is shared on different trim levels and years.

My guess.....the left pump is running much more than the right.....add in a messy filter and the fact that the system runs at 4 bar, with what appears to be a generic pump, i think it taxes the pump up to the capacity it is capable of running, leading to shorter life.

I'm going to pull the plastic housing apart on my old pump simply because when you look in there....it looks near identical to typical walbro and other inline/intake pumps.

New to this forum, thanks to the fuel pump failing. I've read that if you remove a fuse for the failing pump, the trunk would run fine. I did this and it stopped shutting off. My question is can it be driven with only one pump for a few days until my parts get here? Thanks for the help

I've done this w/o issue.

Actually in order to r/r both pumps and flanges.

Sure helps NOT to have but an inch of petrol in the tanque.

If only one pump is working the fuel won't completely scavenge the other side of the tank and your gauge will read above empty but you will run out of fuel as soon as the side with the operating pump goes empty. I think you can get it closer to 1/8 if you are doing some side to side maneuvering but if you are driving smooth straight ahead you can get starvation early without sloshing to the good side.

I'm still struggling with my install of two new pumps and two new flanges and primary keeps dying.....although no longer is the line blowing off the flange on drivers side . I don't know if I have the wrong parts or what. My guy at Sonnen is incommunicado. I'll open the car back up tomorrow morning and take another look. I'm convinced I have something hooked up wrong despite all hoses being size-fitted, so you can't mix anything up.

I'm still ****ed on this. One line won't stop blowing off the fuel filter flange with a whoosh! This line barely clicks on the flange btw. I've run the tank way down so I can clearly discern what's what. The **** is getting old. Dealer wants $300 just to look. Sonnen is on holiday and their stand in parts guy is terrible beyond belief. I'm on the verge of extreme frustration. Today I looked at my order from late July and there's no confusion there. 2 pumps, two flanges, 2 gaskets, and the adapter that isn't useful. All hoses are sized so there's not variation in how to connect everything.

Engine does after startup. Remove fuse for primary pump and engine runs.

(throws hands up in air and reaches for wallet)

AleV8, your location shows Dallas but you mention Sonnen in CA.   If you are in Dallas I'm willing to help troubleshoot this issue if I can help.

Alev8. ..get a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail. It should read around 45psig....The reason I say this is because if it goes way high....like 90psig....you got a hose hooked up wrong. .Hence the hose blowing off.

If you have the right pressure inspect the little barb on the fuel filter....perhaps the plastic is damaged. Have you tried putting the old filter back in to see if it's the line or the filter?

I have been running 1500 miles now on one fuel pump. I was on a long trip and this forum saved me a huge out of town tow and repair. The CS is actually idling better.

My mechanic got it all hooked up properly despite my efforts in Aug-Sept.

Car drives great but the idle sucks at times and acceleration is awesome.

Wish the **** car idled smoothly. I'm thinking could still be a vacuum leak or the MAFS.

I changed my fuel filter on the old 04 CTT before.

now I have a question: the newer 09 CTTS that I am having now has a hard Styrofoam cushion thing on top of the carpet. I do not see any attachment mechanism that holds the styrofoam piece but it is solid-bonded to the carpet. is there any special instruction for this part? and I assume the rest of the work would be the same as 955 CTT.

Check engine breather hoses; there are 2 breather hoses one long and one short in front of engine. The hard plastic hoses that usually breaks and having tiny invisible cracks and causing vacuum leaking. That influences the engine idle but easy to fix!

guys I've had a stall this week, and after that the car would drive but have rough idling ... and in another incident i was driving for like 2 hours around the city and then suddenly the car would hesitate badly and stall when the car stops ...

 

does it sound like a bad fuel pump? does fuel pump on the cayenne fails immediately or does it sometime fail slowly?

 

I tried pulling out the Fuse No.14, to confirm a bad LH Fuel Pump but when I start the engine, it runs for like 3 seconds and then die out ... does this mean I have a bad RH as well? I'm in Saudi Arabia and have to drive couple hundred miles to get to Porsche in Jeddah and you can tell their mechanics are not really that reliable ... so I really need your advise before I start draining Riyals!

last two winters i have this cold starting issue which I have a feeling might be fuel pump related. Problem is it only happens when the car is sitting cold in the driveway.  I cant replicate while in the garage but it is so dam cold out today in NJ that my hope is can get it started once and get it in to garage to do some more testing


I know that fuses 13 and 14 control the pumps.   If I remove fuse 13 is that enough to force the car to fire the other pump or do I need to remove the actual relay.

Also - the document that is listed above, I cant find.  Is that still available?

Hi all I see this is an old thread I'm hoping someone is still around I have the same problem left pump inoperable and read a Toureg one may work attaching pictures of the Toureg one any comments appreciated
