I have 2008 v6 cayenne

I have this problem since I bought this car about 2months ago.

Whenever I brake while reversing, I can here a loud clunk. Then, the clunk appears 4,5 times more with each braking and stops.

Somehow I figured out that I have to drive for a while to hear the noise.

I have been to dealer a couple of times and was told that this is normal because 7 out of 10 gen2 cayenne have the same problem.

They first said it is probably because of wet weather making the brakes to slip, but then they said the sound is comming from the drivetrain. The sturucture of differential gears, drive shaft and etc are the cause of noise. They said its safe and there is nothing to do about it.

However, I think the clunk is pretty serious because it's very loud! Anybody has solution?

What is the milage? I drove a 2008 V6 with 42,000 miles and it didn't make any noises. What part of the vehicle do you think the noise is coming from? Front/Rear?Middle?

I had the same issue with my CS awhile back. I had noticed that the rear brakes were very low. Once in awhile, when in reverse, I would get the clunk. I got the clunk from the left rear brake. I changed out the pad and rotors and the problem went away. I hope that helps.

The sound is from the rear or maybe middle, but definitely from behind the driver's seat.

So the brake is the cause of this? what year was your cayenne?

If the clunk is from the brake, then how can I check the brakes are very low or not?

Hi,

I have a 2008 V8 Cayenne, I have the exact same problem when I brake while reversing. I feel  it’s coming from the front. Do you think it’s the front brakes or is it the suspensions system?

Car has done about 110k KMs.

~ TIA

I had this same problem recently

I also recently changed out all my control arms sway links and bushings and adjusted my exhaust hangers while under there and the noise is gone

So not sure this is your issue but it may be a place to look

In my case the noise is coming from the brake pads moving inside the brake calipers, it started right after I replaced my old pads with new Bosch pads that I got on Amazon.
